Aion 2 Server Regions: Which Server to Pick, Name Reservation, and the Oceania Problem

The global launch runs five servers: NA West, NA East, South America, Central Europe, and Japan. There is no Oceania server. Your faction — Elyos or Asmodian — picks your server cluster, and NCSoft has not yet announced a global character-name reservation event.

That is the official boundary. Everything about which world will be busy, who speaks English on it, and whether you can move later is either a player assumption or a Korea/Taiwan carryover. Here is the decision, broken down.

The five servers, exactly as NC states them

On the August 7, 2026 global community stream, NCSoft named the launch servers. A September 1, 2026 statement confirmed the region list and explicitly ruled an Oceania server out of the launch line-up:

NA WestNorth America, western cluster
NA EastNorth America, eastern cluster
South AmericaSouth American region
Central EuropeEuropean region, described officially as Central Europe
JapanThe only Asia-Pacific region in the global service

NC says there is no region locking between these five — meaning you are not prevented from connecting to a global server in another region. That statement is about movement inside the global cluster; it is not a promise about playing from a fifth continent, and NC has never published data-center cities or latency numbers for any of them.

South Korea and Taiwan are a separate service that has been live since November 19, 2025. They are not one of the five, and there is no announced account, character, purchase or transfer between them and the global build.

How players actually pick: latency first, friends second

The advice repeated across the launch-thread is boring but correct: pick the region closest to where you physically are. A theoretically famous server is a poor choice if your ping to it makes melee combat feel late. Within North America, the East/West split exists precisely so you do not cross the country twice for a dungeon.

The second rule is social: the server you pick is where your guild, your friends and your trading-house prices live. Several launch stories from the original Aion describe guilds spending opening night trying to remember whether they agreed on server 12 or server 17. Decide in a group chat before September 30, not in the queue.

What players argue about — which world will be "most English", which will be most populated — has no official answer and will not be knowable until the servers actually open. Treat any specific "this server will be the big one" claim as a hope, not data.

Your faction choice locks your server

This is the one that catches people. In Aion 2, Elyos and Asmodian are on separate servers — picking your race is picking your cluster, and there is no switching sides on a whim. If half your friends are on Elyos and half on Asmodian, you are not playing together on day one.

Players who have done the Korea/Taiwan launch emphasize making this call before the early-access window, because the first five days are when the names and the guild slots fill. It is also the decision least likely to be reversible cheaply: NC has not announced free server or faction transfers for the global launch, and the Korean build did not open transfers immediately either.

Name reservation: what Korea did, and what global has not announced

Because the global build has not opened yet, the honest picture comes from what NC did for the Korean launch in October 2025, not from a global notice:

For the global build, NCSoft had not posted a name-reservation or pre-creation event date as of this writing. That means two practical consequences: do not assume your desired name is safe, and do not assume it is gone either. If a global event lands, it will likely run ahead of the September 30 early-access window — which is another reason Founder's Pack holders are first through the door. The specific hour servers open on September 30 has not been published; NC has a pattern of leaving launch times unstated.

The Oceania problem

If you are in Australia or New Zealand, the list above does not have an answer for you, and NC said so on September 1. Two options exist, and both have a catch:

The community-sensible reading is: stay on the global Japan server unless you specifically want the head start of a mature economy, and do not lean on a region-masking tool to reach Taiwan — that is exactly the kind of thing that gets accounts actioned.

What NC has not said, and why it matters

A few things people will ask you on launch night, none of which have official answers yet:

The short version

Pick the region under you (NA East/West, South America, Central Europe, or Japan), lock your faction with your friends before September 30, do not chase a "famous" server, and treat your name as unreserved until NC posts a global event. Australians and New Zealanders: Japan is your home inside the global service; Taiwan is a separate world, not a shortcut.

The dates underneath: Founder's Pack holders go in on September 30, 2026, everyone else on October 5, 2026. Server line-ups and opening times can change before the window — check the official notices board on launch week rather than trusting this page.
